2008 Season - Week 17
Winners
A huge congratulations to Wayne who becomes the first BUM to win the Papas Fritas Trophy three times. He only joined the BUMS when we expanded to 16 Franchises in 2001 and so has won the Premiership 3 times in 8 years. He previously won it in 2003 and 2004 under the guidance of Peyton Manning as his franchise QB. Chief finally ended up 28 points behind Wayne, in the silver medal position with Johnny a further 26 points behind in the Bronze slot. A big shout out to our Conference Winner John B who co-incidentally won by 28 points. His selection of Panther DeAngelo Williams on Trading Day 2 proved to be the key factor as his team of half million dollar players rode DeAngelo heavily across the last 7 weeks of the season. In that time $0.5m Williams scored 14 TDs for a total of 84 points, the second highest amongst running backs, 6 points behind $2m Brandon Jacobs and 2 more than $3m Brian Westbrook and Dave G’s Franchise man Maurice Jones-Drew. All three players were on BUMS rosters for all 17 weeks of the season. The other two promotion spots were not finalised until the final quarter of the last game of the season. Going into the Sunday Night Denver–San Diego game Marcus was second with 416 points but had nobody left to play. David S had 414 with Tolbert & Chambers playing for San Diego with Aaron sitting outside the promotion spots 2 points behind Stampy with Cutler playing for Denver and Shanahan coaching the Broncos. As we went into the 4th quarter neither of the Virgins had scored for Stampy but it was clear Shanahan would not get the win for Aaron as San Diego led 34-13. With 13 minutes left in the season Cutler completed a TD pass putting Aaron 1 point ahead of David and 1 behind his brother. When his QB then ran in the 2-point conversion he moved ahead of his brother and into the Premiership. And so Marcus was left to sweat for 13 minutes that Tolbert or Chambers wouldn’t score. With 1:19 to go on 4th and 1 at the Denver 4 yard line Tolbert lined up behind his QB as the fullback. Rivers handed off to the RB Hester and Tolbert blocked for him into the end zone so ending David’s chance of Promotion.
Losers
After his poor 5 point total last week AP was 5 points behind Daz going into the final week of the season. AP had a big week and when the final whistle blew in the Washington @ San Francisco (a game AP was at – now that’s commitment to your BUMS roster), Daz had come up 8 points short. Mark B & AP added some insurance points in the Night game and Daz joins Cheryl & Ron in the Conference next year.
